The meeting on the 2nd of May will be at 5pm at the ex-Grand Banks, occupied Social Centre right opposite Tufnell Park tube station.

Agenda…

1: Next benefit to be an all day event?

It was suggested that we fill the time from 12/1pm until 8pm (when dj’s take over ) with workshops/demonstrations and the like.

It was agreed that freedom is a bit small to hold this type of event. And that it maybe difficult to mix (this type of audience) all day workshops with a party. But workshops/demonstrations are not out of the question and should defiantly be worked/ perfected and tutor skills tuned. Something for the next one maybe, but not enough time for this one. We should also use this extra time to promote this event. Which should hopefully generate enough interest for the next one.

2: Courses and films if all day benefit

3: Wireless A.D.S.L. ( liberating the streets out the event )

This has been set up witch now means that the social center is now receiving liberated wireless internet access. It also now has several computers on a network various software installed and will soon have some self led tutorials for people wanting to get familiar with the several packages on offer across the network. And is already proving popular and is in constant use.

4: Live stream from the even ( who can set this up )

No volunteers

5: The Hackmobile, (Mobile Hacklab, for presentations/courses, at benefits and outside the lab)

It was suggested setting up 2/3 pcs ( posibley networked with wirless internet) with a view for them to be taken to benefits and the like in order the demonstrate the possibilites and whatever took peoples fancy.

For the time being this may be a little to much work and there are more prssing issues. Maybe for the future if anyone fancyes taking it up.

6: Workstations, Info Points, (what will be presented?, will this fall into the duty of the bar or door)

See above (5:) although we should have some paper information if people request it.

7: Aprochable people (Wearing MASSIVE/HATS badges or similar)

It was suggested that this may make the hacklab people info bods more aprochable by someone who is interested in the hacklab and has com along specifically to find out more.

8: Knoppix cds for distribution ( where are they, Create somemore )

Unsure as to whare they are. Info point,sofware swopshop, ask the expert, will make copyies on request.

9: Live acts?

More live acts needed martin sugested one will try and make comtact, if they are unable to attend, we could ask pink and ….. again, unless anyone comes up with any other acts, livesets, perfprmance pieces etc. ( if any ideas please mail the list TA! )

10: Line up/Play list

More DJ’s needed for now we have Da filthy Gringo selects so 70’s Heavyweight, Stefano on the Minimalist teck clip, One of da Wombles massive, ( see rota for next benefit for time slots and order ) ( if any ideas please mail the list TA! )

11: Projection screens, (Sheets/Netcurtains especialy need for next benefit)

Dan said he mayby able to raid his mums coboard, ben said he has some large pieces of theat white strechy licra stuff, but is unable to get to it at the mo.

As the social cener is up for eviction we may need another venue for our next benefit Mamading could ask the gallery in laytonston chris will looking into tottenham, and ana said she would chase them up if it could be possible other social centers were also suggested.




14: Promotion (List of possible venues/events etc. to flyer)

A List of mailing list was copiled, Stefano said he could flyer the ritzy cinema and the brixton area. Reuben Said he could do some of camden, Asa said he’ll mail and keep an eye on the mailing list, list. Places to publicise: urban 75, Indy media, aktivix, wtf, schnews, London social events, beyond TV if we do a screening, tsr, enrager.net, st. agnes place, wombles mailing list & website, OUR website. Also physical places to put up fliers. If anyone can think of any more, please pass this to the list.

15: Pass rota round for people to fill in

OK But is important to have more names, as if there are to many gaps then how can we run workshops as well

16 :Support for Social Center as people are away over May, shifts available

I was suggested that we show our support to the sociallcenter as many off the regular staff are away. The shift book is behind the bar area, and people should keep an eye out for suitable buildings in there area and inform the center before their eviction. Witch is two days after the benefit. They will apreacheate any help offered.

17: Breakaway mtg RE: Bank Details

Ana and Asa had brought all the relevant documentation and to discuss among themselves what had to be done and agreed to report to the main meeting their progress/findings.

Any other business:

????? Showed interest in doing a workshop prior to the next mtg and also brought along some ISP info.

We should make new arrivals, late comers welcome by handing them a copy of the agenda or informing them of the meetings progress.

Flyers need to be done a moth before the event for maximum distribution/impact.

People at the door should explain what the benefit is about.

If anyone can bring any sheets net curtains décor moving images for the video projector than please feel free. The more the better


It was suggested that the date of the benefit be change as it will clash with a wake at another venue some ware in London.

The remaining meeting attendees came to the conclusion that the wheels have started turning / we should stick to the plan, and the wake seems is very likely to attract a different crowd.

ORIGINAL MUINETS TAKEN BY ANA


The most important thing for that: is to promote it, because without lots of people coming it doesn’t make case. We don’t even have a flier; we need to do one very shortly, even for a not-full day. For a full day event, we would need at least a month.

With the time we have, it would be possible to have the same stuff as last benefit. For any more than that it would be the very specialised people that would want to come.

Also the fact that we will have to do the food on our own. We’ve been helping out but the responsibility was on people who are not going to make it for this benefit anyway...

Proposal: doing the benefit only, as we’ll have to do the whole benefit when we usually do half of it.

Party: if you want to do it well, do need more than 2 weeks.

It’s going to be an all day event anyway [for us preparing], we will be working all day preparing the event.

Need to know how many people are coming and doing rotas, then we can know if it is worth getting machines here to burn cds etc. if we don’t have enough people for rotas , then we don’t’ have enough people to have workshops. So people need to commit to do a shift otherwise can not do a worshop.

Agreed: Worskshop will start: at about 5? Then anyone who wants to swap, can swap software. If we don’t have enough people to cover all the rota slots, there will not be workshops either because covering the rota is more important.

Agreed: Not a full day workshop. Because we only just managed to organise the last one.

Proposal: the people at the door to have knoppix cds and talk to ppl of what they are about.

Need to focus, looks there is a lack of ppl. Great if we can have a benefit ‘and’ a promotional event, but if there is not enough people we need to focus on one or the other. There are other ways of promoting other than benefits, we now need to raise money.

Agreed: if there are not enough people in the rota shifts, then people initially willing to do the info points & workstations will be re-allocated to shifts where there is a need of people.

Live acts, ben knows some people who are willing to participate. Reuben is co-ordinating transport if possible, if there is no van then the group that ben knows will not be able to play.

Chris can also ask the friend who did the acustic live act lat time. This could be for one hour. Martin does some djs and Stefano can dj as well. Complete line – up in the wiki.

If anyone wants to bring anyone for the background visual, bring along, together with a laptop with sheets… ask dan, martin, who seem to know about this.

Poster explaining what the hacklab is? Do we have the one from last time? It was the leaflet in big. Dan will do it this time. The leaflet will be put up on the wiki as big attachments should not be sent to the list.

Venue for next event, next month. Possible, Tottenham another one Leytonstone. Chris will look into Tottenham, we volunteer Mamading for Leytonstone in his absence (if he refuses then ana can).

Maybe put something in the wtf mailing list, about this coming event because they would be potentially interested in the hacklab.

Rotas: we need lots more people!!! Put your name on the wiki or mail this list saying what you want to do what hours, and we’ll update it. Need another item in the rota: glasses picking up.

2 days after our benefit is eviction date, please as many of us who can turn up, please do, this social centre have done so much for us.

(after the meeting, Val suggested that we change the date of the benefit because it clashes with the memorial of a friend that some of us knew well and worked with, and that many people would be interested in attending both events. Some people will go to the social centre’s meeting on Wednesday and try to negotiate with the social centre a ‘sharing’ of their free film night on the Friday 14th of May.)
