Minutes of meeting of Saturday 21st January 2006

Meeting called because the internet in the Rampart has become too unreliable to be any good.

1.Possibilities.

1.1. We're going to try some guys who live nearby who may be up for sharing their internet connection. Chris will talk to them.

1.2. The second option is to get our own. Chris will phone BT to find out options for a legitimate phone line in rampart.

2. The Freedom account.

Martin is currently paying for it, from his own pocket. We don't know how much he has already paid without getting any money from any one. We didn't make more than £20 in the last benefit (last April). He's paying £22 a month so it could be... a lot of money. We don't know if ASS have been paying some of it or not.

This issue needs to be raised with Freedom Bookshop as to who owes martin this money. In theory it is freedom who should pay Martin because the london Hacklabs collective de-attached itself from that space since we didnot have the energy to run both places (see previous minutes, http://wiki.hacklab.org.uk/index.php/Previous_Minutes, or you may have to look at the archives to refresh your memory, or you are welcome to fuall further open meetings - see end of minutes).

Ideally, ASS would be paying about half of the bills of the adsl, specially if they are using it.

John is going to find out what is the general status of the computers in the Freedom hacklab, the bank account and the debt. There 'was' a lot of information about each computer in teh wiki, but it has been down a few times and the info may be lost. Thre used to be a log book there too, but I'm not too sure it has been updated.

Reuben is going to look up for options for freedom, for them to set themselves up; the London Hacklabs Collective is not taking responsibility for the internet connection there.

3. The wiki

The wiki needs updating, things have not been put up, pages have not been updated and lots of info has been lost. John will look into this.

4. A future event for outreaching and fundrising

We are planning an open day/event in March, on a saturday. If enough people get involved and work on this, we can have a benefit too and raise some money. The first idea that pops up is a workshop on free software and why it is good to use it instead of non free software, making a clear paralell of non free vs free software with wild capitalism vs alternatives.

Chris will approach pogo cafe (sorry if it is mispelt) to propose them help and cook for a potential night event as part of the whole event - they will probably get all donations for the food and we can get donations to get in...

This will happen on a saturday but in general, we want to leave saturdays as a drop-in day when workshops can happen, but not for a crowd big enough to disrupt the current lively community that has been developing for over a year now. So big workshops will happen on other days.

Next meeting is going to be next saturday 28th of January at 4pm.
